About this Blog

After several months of almost full-time researching the wave of “new” thought that’s sweeping through the Church, I thought I’d start blogging about my findings.

But when I sat down to write my first entry, I realized that others have already said what I wanted to say.  And probably much better than I could ever say, as well.  So I thought to myself, “Why reinvent the wheel?”

I decided this blog would become a one-stop shopping source for all things Purpose-Driven, Emerging, Contemplative, and just generally Apostate (or fast approaching that label) in the church today.  I hope for this blog to be almost like a Table of Contents for finding your way through the maze online of websites, publications, blogs and articles dealing with these various topics.

My goal isn’t to build readership for myself, but to perhaps help open the eyes of Christians to what’s happening in the modern Church.  I’ve already heard from one reader (via their own blog) that my blog was instrumental in helping them find the path through the maze of current trends in Christianity (aka “Church”-ianity).  If my blog does nothing else besides help that one confused and searching person make some sense of the spiritual free-for-all within the church walls today, I feel like it’s all been worthwhile.

I’ve chosen to keep this blog comment-free, mainly because I don’t have enough time in my day to monitor and/or moderate any discussions (arguments?!) that might arise.  Many of the websites and blogs listed in my Blogroll in the sidebar of this page have active comment and discussion sections, and you’ll find me commenting there from time to time.

Do I really think what we’re seeing in the church is “THE Great Apostasy”?  I honestly don’t know.

But although I sense that what’s happening is similar to what’s gone before (The Down-Grade Controversy in England over 100 years ago, for example), the sheer magnitude and world-wide sweep of this current “down-grading” of the Christian faith is unprecedented.

Whether it’s THE Great Apostasy or not, who knows?  But whatever’s happening, it’s important for us all to stay grounded in the Faith.  The true Faith.

So dust off your Bible.  Read it like your life depended on it.

And you know what?  It very well might …

“The need of the hour for today’s ministry is believing scholarship joined with earnest spirituality, the one springing from the other as fruit from the root. The need is biblical doctrine, so understood and felt, that it sets men on fire.”  ~Charles Spurgeon (1887)
